Eyes on You Achieves Business Accolade

We are proud to announce that after just 8 months of trading, Eyes on You Media was a finalist in the prestigious Edith Cowan University WA Business Awards.

This is a phenomenal achievement for such a young business, yet we regard it as a mere stepping stone to the Telstra Businesswoman of the Year Award.

Event promotion brings full house

Event promotion saw St George’s Cathedral packed to the rafters for the opening of its 2009 Concert Series and two extraordinary Easter performances.

The event promotion included some carefully angled press releases, bringing features in The West Australian, the Western Suburbs Weekly and West TV – worth a watch.

This coverage, combined with events listings, email-outs, three strategically placed ads, and fliers distributed through The Poster Girls, had the desired effect.

The first event – an amazing performance of Bach’s Mass in B minor with authentic baroque instruments – was described afterwards as “absolutely brilliant” by Mark Coughlan, music critic to The Australian.

On the other two nights, a unique collaboration between the Cathedral and West Australian Ballet was a promotional gift – a unique presentation of Mozart’s Requiem with the Ballet dancing in the Cathedral.

Once again the stunning gothic revival building was packed to the rafters, and the experience was so intense that some patrons were moved to tears.

Images of both performances can be viewed here in the Photo Gallery under Recent Shoots. These fabulous images are a useful resource for promotion of future events at the Cathedral.

Thanks to the quality of these extraordinary performances future audiences will also be boosted by returns and word of mouth.

Writing talent marketed by Eyes on You Media

Book marketing is a specialism of Eyes on You Media, based on many years’ experience in the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Here’s a rundown on the authors we are currently assisting.

  • Soon to be released is Roxy O’Reilly’s astonishing guide to tassology – the reading of tea leaves and coffee grounds that will sweep away scepticism. We expect to see all eyes on the incredible images Roxy has managed to capture in the course of her work. They have to be seen to be believed.

Eyes on You Media has edited the book, advised on production and is now preparing a publicity and marketing strategy for Roxy, pictured right – watch out for her!

  • We have recently assessed two manuscripts. One of these – from a Victorian author – will be ghost-written by Eyes on You Media, and the other – from a New South Wales writer – will be edited and publicised by us.
  • A nonfiction writer from Alice Springs, challenging conventional thinking on the nature of space, has come to us for national publicity for his book, God, Man and the Universe. His story is now with the media.
  • In Tasmania, a local history writer has challenged us to publicise their book outside the island state, and we are currently researching opportunities.
  • And on an international front, we are in discussion with an established UK author and about to launch her books across Australia.
  • We are also working with two crime writers – one from South Australia, who writes in the Stephen King genre and is seeking Eastern States publicity; and the other from Western Australia whose manuscript has excellent dramatic potential and is currently with a script editor.
  • Another project with broadcast potential involves a recently revealed body of research collected over 30 years and stored in a private home, which is drawing interest from documentary production houses. We are looking forward to seeing where this unusual and exciting project takes us.

Eyes on You event promotion draws crowds

Eyes on You Media has been flat out lately with event promotion. Following the wonderful success of Inquisitve Minds with Sir Michael Parkinson, Linda and Jane have continued to create imaginative angles for their media contacts, drawing attention to a series of concerts.

Event promotion involves a range of strategies. Adding the event to media listings, placing ads strategically, and distributing posters and fliers to target demographics are obvious ones. But we find that what really gets results is grabbing the media’s imagination with creative press release services.

Linda has added this essential ingredient to the promotion of fresh talent Mahmood Khan, American funk musician with a growing following in the US as well as Pakistan and India.

Mahmood was thrilled by the crowds attending his concert at the Sydney Opera House after Linda’s publicity services achieved coverage in four SBS programmes and several regional papers.

Mahmood has worked with Chucki Booker, producer for Lionel Richie and Janet Jackson, and Damon Thomas, who produced Justin Timberlake and Jordan Sparks. He now has a concert lined up at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and Linda is beavering away at promoting this exciting event.

Linda is also working with Perth new wave band Luna Parade, Triple J award winners, whose talent is likely to get them publicity in the Eastern States before too long.

The band is already known locally, but has big ambitions to achieve enough publicity in Australia and then the UK to land a record contract. We will keep you informed on their progress.

Meanwhile, Jane has been busy promoting concerts and performances in her other life as publicist for Perth’s St George’s Cathedral, achieving photo features in the West Australian, the Western Suburbs Weekly and the Guardian Express.

The first in the Cathedral’s concert series – Bach’s Mass in B Minor, scheduled for this coming Friday – has seen tickets selling fast, and the Cathedral expects to welcome a full house of 500.

The combination of West Australian Ballet and world-class musicians presenting Mozart’s Requiem on 7 and 8 April has already received some fabulous publicity, and the Cathedral is expecting to fill all the pews on both nights for this amazing event too.

If you have an event that needs promotion and publicity, contact us using the form below. Our next post will provide a rundown on the authors we are currently assisting with manuscript assessments, editing, ghost-writing and book marketing.

Event a success thanks to Eyes on You publicity

Thanks to effective and comprehensive publicity leading up to Inquisitive Minds with Sir Michael Parkinson, the event was a huge success, drawing a crowd of approximately 1700.

Parky clearly enjoyed the experience, which made it even more enjoyable for the appreciative audience. And all those who got to meet the man afterwards said the same thing – he really is a genuinely nice guy!

This event was not ‘advertised’ – apart from a few online listings – but was promoted through publicity, and promotion in the form of a competition to win tickets. So the only cost to the organiser promoting the event was a few complimentary tix!

Linda achieved:

  • airtime every weekday for two weeks on 6PR with the promotion running across four primetime programmes,
  • an exclusive TV interview on A Current Affair with Louise Momber,
  • a promotion running every day for six days on the primetime show Botica’s Bunch, on 94.5,
  • coverage on primetime ABC Radio for three days leading up to the event,
  • editorial with a competition in 15 community newspapers and online,
  • an article in Perth Now – the Sunday Times online newspaper,
  • a spread in the West Australian’s 7 Days entertainment magazine.

While a story like this is like gold dust to a publicist, organising this kind of extensive and widespread publicity takes professionalism, personality, imagination, skill and hard graft.

The event’s success also opens the doors for other high-profile celebrities to become involved in the new Inquisitive Minds series.

Copyright in the image that appears with this blog post rests with Josh Alach, and was taken at the Inquisitive Minds event at Perth Convention Centre on 26 February.

Eyes on You Media promotes Michael Parkinson in Perth

Sir Michael Parkinson – possibly the greatest TV interviewer of all time, and certainly the most experienced – is coming to little old Perth.

Even better, Eyes on You Media has been asked to take on the publicity management before and during his visit.

We are now working with print and broadcast media to promote the event and manage media liaison with Sir Michael (aka Parky) during his trip. Here’s a link to the 94.5 interview.

As an established international celebrity himself, Parky needs no introduction and isn’t looking to promote himself. This makes for an interesting challenge, as he has placed limits on the number of interviews he is prepared to give.

Ever conscious of maintaining good relationships with both our clients and the media, we are hand-picking our media contacts and working to ensure the appropriate level of exposure.

The prime objective is to ensure a packed house for the single event that Sir Michael has agreed to participate in.

Inquisitve Minds Presents Sir Michael Parkinson takes place on 26 February, 7.30pm at the Perth Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The Inquisitive Minds link tells you more about the event, hosted by popular Channel Nine presenter Dixie Marshall, which is a unique opportunity for you – the audience – to turn the tables on Parky and interview HIM.

The Inquisitive Minds website allows you to submit your question. Given that Parky has interviewed almost every famous person on the earth, the potential questions are virtually endless. Find out about your favourite celeb and what it’s like to be the man who’s met everyone.

How our public relations services are winning attention for our clients

The New Year is a time for review, and we’re delighted by the success Eyes on You Media’s PR services have achieved in just a few months thanks to Linda’s publicity skills.

As we were establishing the business for its official launch in September, Linda was beavering away with Conscious Living Magazine and Expo.

While producing the glossy magazine with one hand, she promoted the expo with the other, with publicity achieved in local newspapers, ABC 720 plus independent radio stations, and Channel 10. She also liaised with sponsor, the West Australian, regarding editorial coverage.

Linda also achieved great things for UK ‘intuitive’ and international celebrity, David Wells. The star of the TV series, Most Haunted, now devotes his time to running workshops and publishing books on the paranormal.

Linda took responsibility for national publicity during his tour of Australia, with excellent results. Coverage included a slot on Mornings with Kerri-Anne, editorial in several community and independent newspapers, airtime on metro and community radio stations, Sydney independent radio, a video clip on the Perth Now news site, and broadcasts on ABC radio in Western Australia.

Next came the Yum in My Tum children’s food festival, sponsored by businesses Australia-wide and event hosts Whiteman Park, and supported by Tana Ramsay (wife of Gordon), Tobie Puttock and Maggie Beer.

Linda achieved a feature in the West Australian, radio slots on ABC 720 radio with Geraldine Mellett and 92.9’s prime time breakfast programme, and coverage by Channel 10, community newspapers and independent radio.

And finally, author and tassologist Roxy O’Reilly brought us her new book, Lady in the Cup due to be published early this year. As well as editing the book, Eyes on You Media has already won Roxy slots on Channel 10’s 9am with David and Kim, Sydney independent radio and ABC radio in Western Australia.

We will be organising her media tour when the book is published.

Why you need to blog

The case for blogging continues to grow. This article appeared recently:
Blogs Influence Consumer Purchases More Than Social Networks

Blogging does three things:

  1. Every time you publish a blog post, it’s the equivalent of publishing a new web page. Search engines love this. The more content you publish, the more the search spiders crawl your site, and the quicker you rise in the search rankings.
  2. The personal style of blogging helps to increase trust among your target audience, especially if you use your blog strategically to put across messages and information that people find useful.
  3. Blogs encourage back links – the more good content you publish, the more likely you are to get back links from other sites, which increases the authority of your site and encourages more referral traffic.

Blogging takes time and thought, but it’s time and thought well spent. You can get a self-managed blogsite from OM4Business with online support. If you need help thinking through your strategy and writing your blog posts, get in touch with us:

Why our publicity services work

Getting publicity usually means persuading the media to run a story about you. The key skills required to make this happen are embedded in that sentence:

persuading A publicist needs to know how to angle your message in a way that will appeal to the specific media so they see the value in the story for their audience.
the media Talking the same language as editors and producers, and appreciating their objectives, are vital if the media are to sit up and take your story seriously.
to run a story It’s all in the message, which needs to be turned into a good story and put together with images for maximum impact.
about you The media want a story with an edge – not a fluffy promotional piece – so your publicist needs to know how to create a newsworthy story that still manages to throw limelight onto you.

These are all skills that are ingrained in every professional and experienced journalist. And this is why we believe Eyes on You Media has an edge when it comes to getting publicity for our clients.

As a former magazine editor, Jane’s work as publicist for PublicityShip achieved an average of 2 print stories per press release for her clients. Linda’s expertise lies in broadcast media, where she has achieved phenomenal success. Here’s the latest testimonial she received for her work with medium and UK TV personality, David Wells:

Many thanks for your work on the Australian tour for David Wells from the hit series Most Haunted, shown in Australia on Foxtel. It was a pleasure to work with you. We found you to be very professional and organised, always going that extra mile to assist us. The interviews you organised were aimed exactly at the market we requested and we found all the presenters and associated people very likable and professional. We would have no hesitations in working with you again.
Johanna Garnett, JVG Events

You’ll find a selection of other testimonials in the Latest Feedback section of our blog, and on our site pages.

Web development trends and best practice

Businesses wanting to understand more about web development and design, take note of Edge of the Web – a conference initiated by the Australian Web Industry Association taking place on 6 and 7 November.

Edge of the Web took its name partly from the conference location – the ‘edge of the world’, aka Perth, Western Australia.

It’s mainly, of course, a sign that this conference intends to push boundaries to take the potential of the web into new territory.

The programme has been designed for both the web industry and businesses in general wanting to understand how the web can transform business practice. It concludes with the WA Web Awards.

I’m promoting it here because I happen to know one of the organisers – Kay Smoljak of Clever Starfish, an intelligent web development business that manages to produce sites that are not only highly functional, but also look good and reflect the clients’ brands. This and the impressive line-up of speakers tells me it’s a conference worth taking seriously.

Incidentally, clients who come to us for a site will get the chance to benefit from a combination of Clever Starfish’s design and development expertise, combined with Eyes on You Media specialised content writing and online marketing services.
