Why our publicity services work

Getting publicity usually means persuading the media to run a story about you. The key skills required to make this happen are embedded in that sentence:

persuading A publicist needs to know how to angle your message in a way that will appeal to the specific media so they see the value in the story for their audience.
the media Talking the same language as editors and producers, and appreciating their objectives, are vital if the media are to sit up and take your story seriously.
to run a story It’s all in the message, which needs to be turned into a good story and put together with images for maximum impact.
about you The media want a story with an edge – not a fluffy promotional piece – so your publicist needs to know how to create a newsworthy story that still manages to throw limelight onto you.

These are all skills that are ingrained in every professional and experienced journalist. And this is why we believe Eyes on You Media has an edge when it comes to getting publicity for our clients.

As a former magazine editor, Jane’s work as publicist for PublicityShip achieved an average of 2 print stories per press release for her clients. Linda’s expertise lies in broadcast media, where she has achieved phenomenal success. Here’s the latest testimonial she received for her work with medium and UK TV personality, David Wells:

Many thanks for your work on the Australian tour for David Wells from the hit series Most Haunted, shown in Australia on Foxtel. It was a pleasure to work with you. We found you to be very professional and organised, always going that extra mile to assist us. The interviews you organised were aimed exactly at the market we requested and we found all the presenters and associated people very likable and professional. We would have no hesitations in working with you again.

Finding a ghostwriter or editor

Choosing the right editor or ghostwriter is vital, and you – as the author and owner of your manuscript – need to feel comfortable about your decision.

Many authors spend years researching, writing and refining their books. When it comes to placing a manuscript in the hands of a stranger, it can be hard to let go or to trust that it will be treated appropriately and sensitively.

As ghostwriters and editors ourselves, we understand this because we’ve worked with authors over many years on many kinds of books.

Manuscript assessment
When you look for an editor or ghostwriter, you need to first have your proposal or manuscript assessed by a reputable professional who will give you honest feedback on the writing or editing required to make your book commercially viable – in their opinion.

The ghostwriter or editor may have enough experience to be able to do this for you – or you may need to go to someone who specialises in manuscript assessment.

This is a service we offer our clients before they book our ghostwriting or editing services, because we don’t believe in wasting anyone’s time.

Bear in mind, that no one can guarantee take-up by a publisher, but you can get lots of good advice and useful help.

The difference between editing and ghostwriting
Editing takes many forms, and can vary from crossing the ‘i’s and dotting the ‘t’s to a full rewrite.

Ghostwriting is slightly different from editing. This is for people who want a professional writer to put their story into words for them right from the start.

For extensive editing and ghostwriting, you need someone who listens carefully to what you are communicating, pays close attention to the message, style and nuances of your text, and has the patience to work alongside you without imposing their own style on your book.

I was delighted to receive this endorsement from historian, Jenny Gregory, after working on her manuscript over many months:

“I appreciated your professional approach to the editing of my book, City of Light: a history of Perth since the 1950s. Your editorial work was of a high standard and most importantly, it was a pleasure to work with you!”

Testimony to our web writing skills

In my previous life, I worked with Glenn Nicholas in developing OM4Tourism – a natural progression from my position as editor of Traveltalk magazine, where the frustrations of tourism businesses trying to market themselves on a shoestring were evident.

I owe my online marketing skills to Glenn, although I brought my writing skills and knowledge of tourism to the job. It was a good partnership, and Glenn was kind enough to offer this testimonial:

“Jane has a gift with words and images – she creates websites that tell the story of a business and invite people to find out more.”

I came away from OM4Tourism with the firm belief that a website can be a many-faceted marketing tool, as opposed to just a brochure, and that the content of a site can make or break it.

Thanks to Glenn, I’m now able to offer web development services to SMEs and individuals, applying not just writing skills but an understanding of how to harness a website’s potential to create leads and sales.

Testimonials from our clients

We can tell you how good we are at what we do, but how much better to hear it from our clients.

Some of these testimonials appear in our service description pages, and we will be posting them here as they come in.

First are some comments from Jo Malone of Concord Training Services. When I worked with Jo, she was with the WA School Drug Education Project and brought me in to produce a guide for teachers and youth workers involved in preparing for Leavers Week, called Leavers Live.

Here’s what Jo said:

“It is always a pleasure working with you – I feel confident that your attention to detail and professionalism ensures the publication is the best it can be. Your work on Leavers Live was great and your recommendations for a contemporary and relevant document were invaluable.”
